2003 Mardi Gras Pictures

The second annual LeJeune Cove Mardi Gras Courir, a revival that began in 2002 of a run
held decades ago, was another great success. Like last year, the run recaptured the spirit
of the old time Mardi Gras: a release from everyday routines, lots of cutting up and
breaking the rules, and, along with all the antics, a feeling of community shared by
neighbors who clearly were having a lot of fun. |

On a foggy, cloudy morning, the runners gathered next to the
Pointe aux Loups Bed and Breakfeast on Highway 91 near Iota, and Father David Broussard
gave his blessing for a safe run at about 7:45 a.m.
Captaine Gus Gravot led the run toward the first stop. At
each stop, he rode up to the home first to get permission before signaling the Mardi Gras
to enter the property. Once the runners were in front of the home, they knelt to sing the
LeJeune Cove Mardi Gras Song, and then they began dancing and carrying on, looking for
fun. |
